Soothsayer Auahi O'zuna

For this particular project, I wanted to create a character that broke away from the European motifs seen in a lot of popular media. I chose, instead, to make a soothsayer-type character, based off traditional Maōri clothing and female sumo wrestlers.
From the start, I knew I wanted her to be big, so I chose a sumo wrestler's body for her to give her a more unique and powerful build. Pair that with her straight posture and intricate, tassel-covered garb, and I felt confident she would fill the role of a wise woman. Here is also her preliminary color palette and facial structure; a more somber, muted array of colors, and a stonier face.
However, in my second pass, I rehashed her color palette into something much, much more vibrant. I wanted a more magical, colorful design to fit her borderline otherworldly job within her culture. Colorful blue hair only added on to the magical aspect of her appearance.
With this as my final pass, I found myself very happy with her overall look. Adding silky textures to much of her cloth, giving her pretty, glittering beads, and giving her almost ritualistic facial tattoos over a murky, blinded eye fully tied the thing together; not to mention some pretty nose and lip rings to add some more allure to her face.
